Athens Psiri Hotel is minutes away from many world-renown wonders of Athens. We want you to make the most of your stay, so here are a few of what we consider “must-see” attractions in Athens.

The Acropolis:This instantly recognizable site is one of the world’s top tourist destinations and is just 0.9 km – a 15-minute walk – from the Athinaikon Hotel. The Acropolis is an architectural marvel, rich with history and mystique. Structures of the Acropolis include the Parthenon, the Odeon of Pericles, the Temple of Athena Nike and the Erechtheum. The Acropolis Museum also houses priceless artifacts from centuries past. You can access the Acropolis via Metro line 2; take the train from Panepistimio station to the Acropolis station.

Syntagma Square: This public gathering space is surrounded by many of Athens’ top attractions, including the Psiri, Plaka and Monastiraki neighborhoods, the Tower of the Winds, the Ancient Agora of Athens, the Theater of Dionysius and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Syntagma Square itself is breathtaking and affords vistas of incredible architecture from eras long past. Athens Psiri Hotel  is just 0.7 km from the square and can be reached within 10 minutes by foot. Be sure to stop by at 11 a.m. on Sundays and public holidays to witness the ceremonial changing of the guard.

National Archaeological Museum: For a whirlwind tour of Greek history as told by ancient artifacts themselves, visit the National Archaeological Museum. Exhibits at the museum date back to pre-historic times and feature art and artifacts of all kinds, including sculptures, wall frescoes; be sure to check out the 20,000-volume library of archaeology featuring publications dating back to the 17th century. You can reach the National Archaeological Museum via Metro line 1 (take the train from Monastiraki station to Victoria station) or on foot; the 1.1-km trek takes about 15 minutes.

Monastiraki Square: In addition to housing a Metro station, Monastiraki Square features many local vendors and shops – feel free to grab some authentic souvlaki and browse for souvenirs for friends back home. The square hosts a flea market on Sundays, at which you can enjoy the bounty of Athens’ finest local farmers.

Psiri Square:If you’re looking for an authentic, local Greek with quaint taverns, cozy ouzeries (so named for the Greek alcoholic drink “ouzo,” which is served with snacks) and full-service restaurants, there is plenty to enjoy in Psiri Square.

Gazi: The Athens gas factory from the early 1800s till 1984 closed it’s shutters after more than a century of operation. The factory has been converterd into a museum and culture – seminar center. Gazi surroundings are transformed into a top nightlife destination  full of  clubs, bars and restaurants. Gazi is only a 20 minute walk from the Hotel Athens Psiri(through Ermou str) or you can take the metro from Monastiraki to Keramikos just 1 stop via metro line 3.
